#6 - Distinguished Inkcap

 (Elizabeth McGeown)

Coprinus alopecia

He sighs. He sighs again. He furrows brow.
He lifts his hand and strokes his aching neck.
He says goodbye on Zoom — no — he says Ciao!
and contemplates how life became this wreck.

It started off so well. The PhD:
Professor of Philosophy of Art.
The parties where the wine was flowing free;
the nubile undergrads the finest part.

Tweed jacket soft with age, the elbow pads
of finest leather stitched by careful hand.
The hand that took the kids when it got bad,
with access still not sorted, court date planned.

And now he grades the papers in his room
and writes a lesson plan for next week's Zoom.
