I had a name before you gave me one
in slumber for some twenty thousand winters
of teeth cold eyes cold dreaming mountain sun
fragments of heart and echo pregnant splinters
I am potential larval promise
my Botticelli belly thighs of tusk
the embryonic argon Doubting Thomas
beneath the mammoth footprints in the dusk
Awake awake a renaissance of light
the hands that delve unearth the mocking fingers
a breath a hope edacious appetite
consuming ancient myth and all that lingers
the tattooed man arrives clutching a warning
and recondite erections in the morning
